Petula Moy was born in Hong Kong. She immigrated to America with her family when she was a teenager. As a young Chinese immigrant with English as a second language, she experienced cultural shock, confusion, and uncertainty. However, through the encouragement of her mother promised Petula that America was filled with new opportunities, hopes and dreams.
In order to explore the American culture, Petula attended the University of Virginia where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse and held various healthcare management positions as her first career path.
Petula later returned to college to obtain her Master of Business Administration Degree at Old Dominion University. After graduation, she started her second career journey in the business world. Petula is a serial entrepreneur with a love and focus on the financial industry and supporting community developments. Professionally, Petula is the Founder and President of Moy Capital, a Financial and Insurance firm that services individuals, professionals and businesses. Through her dedication to the financial industry, Petula now serves as Director on the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Board for the State of Virginia.
Petula is very passionate and committed to impacting local communities that led her to develop the nonprofit organization called the Asian American Alliance. The organization’s mission is to build an environment and develop opportunities were Asian and Non-Asian individuals can engage to build stronger communities for generations to come. The organization alongside various news media outlets was the voice of the Anti-Asian Hate Movement in Virginia in 2021.
In 2022, the first Asian Food Month Campaign was created by Binchmark, in collaboration with the Asian American Alliance and E.N.T.R. Entrepreneur Advancement Program. The campaign encourages ongoing cultural relations and celebrates Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month in May through its great food creations. The campaign received a resolution from the City of Virginia Beach for its contribution to cultural relations.
Petula is bilingual, speaking both Chinese and English. She is an enthusiastic public speaker who is eager to share her insights and perspectives.
